Summary The Performance Improvement (PI) Nurse, Magnet Designation, supports initiatives aligned with the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program and the organization's Journey to Excellence. This role is responsible for driving nursing excellence through strategic collaboration, data-driven improvement, and fostering professional nursing practice that meets Magnet standards. The PI Nurse provides and applies clinical expertise, advanced critical thinking, and knowledge of performance improvement tools and processes to support accreditation readiness, patient outcomes, and nursing practice advancement across the health system.
Responsibilities - Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement plans that support Magnet designation and organizational quality goals.
- Collects, analyzes, and trends clinical and operational data related to nursing practice, patient outcomes, and organizational benchmarks.
- Monitors and reports on quality indicators such as medication errors, patient falls, hospital-acquired infections, patient satisfaction scores, and readmission rates.
- Collaborates with nursing units to evaluate nurse-to-patient ratios, assess their impact on care quality and staff well-being, and implement improvement strategies.
- Facilitates staff peer review processes, clinical database coordination, and interprofessional team/task force development to address identified opportunities for improvement.
- Leads initiatives to reduce readmission rates through enhanced discharge planning and patient education.
- Coordinates continuous accreditation readiness activities, including policy and procedure review, documentation validation, and compliance with Magnet standards.
- Provides data support and reporting for Magnet-related committees and quality councils.
- Assists in the preparation for Magnet site visits, reports, and annual submissions.
- Partners with nursing leadership to promote professional development, evidence-based practice, and a culture of nursing excellence.
- Develops and supports educational and outreach opportunities related to Magnet principles and performance improvement initiatives.
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience - Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related clinical nursing experience.
- Demonstrated involvement in performance improvement activities is preferred.
- Prior Magnet or nursing-sensitive indicator experience is also preferred.
- Preferred certifications include CPHQ, NE-BC, or other relevant performance improvement or nursing leadership credentials.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Credentials
- Valid Florida RN license is required.
- Incumbents performing direct patient care must have American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
- Preferred certifications include CPHQ, NE-BC, or other relevant performance improvement or nursing leadership credentials.
