Job Title: Night Time Custodian
Location: Villa Bella Expeditionary Elementary School & Villa Bella Expeditionary Middle School
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: 5 days per week, Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day

  • Monday – Thursday: 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM

  • Friday: 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM

  • 30-minute unpaid lunch break, plus 2 15-minute paid breaks per shift

  • 208 days per year (school calendar)

Position Summary:

The Night Time Custodian plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students and staff at both Villa Bella Expeditionary Elementary and Villa Bella Expeditionary Middle Schools. This position is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining various areas within the schools, ensuring the facility is ready for daily use. The Night Custodian will work independently, following established procedures, while adhering to safety protocols and working with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning & Maintenance:

    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.

    • Clean and disinfect restrooms, ensuring they are fully stocked with supplies.

    • Empty trash cans and replace liners in classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas.

    • Wipe down and disinfect surfaces, including desks, countertops, and door handles.

    • Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.

    • Ensure all light fixtures are functioning and report any maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager.

  • General Facility Care:

    • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, notifying the Facilities Manager when reordering is necessary.

    • Set up and break down for special events or school activities, as needed.

    • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, adjusting furniture).

    • Maintain grounds outside the school, including sweeping walkways and cleaning outdoor areas.

    • Report safety hazards, such as spills or damaged equipment, to the Facilities Manager immediately.

  • Health & Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure that cleaning chemicals and supplies are stored and handled according to safety guidelines.

    • Follow all district policies and procedures regarding cleanliness, safety, and environmental health.

    • Monitor school environment for any potential safety or cleanliness concerns and report them to the Facilities Manager.

  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Communicate effectively with school staff and administrators regarding any issues or requests.

    • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow custodial staff and other school employees.

    • Keep the Facilities Manager informed of cleaning and maintenance needs, as well as any operational challenges.

Qualifications:
  • Experience:

    • Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred, but not required.

    • Knowledge of cleaning products, tools, and techniques is a plus.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.

    • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 pounds) and perform physical tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and bending.

    • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe use.

    • Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols.

    • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Must be able to pass a background check and any other required pre-employment screenings.

    • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

    • Reliable transportation to and from work.

    • Flexibility to adjust to changes in work schedules, as needed.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Occasional use of ladders or step stools to reach high areas for cleaning.

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, both indoors and outdoors.
